  1. good idea!
What I’m missing on initial tests is that:
    – apparently stemmer only works for Chinese and English. I tried some tests in Russian and it either resulted in not stemmed results or several pages of completly absurd results(not even remotely relevant and not containing keywrods at all)
    – XML API. You say it’s here. Except that no mention how to use it. Or you mean ‘use client’s one’?
    – client opens /instant.xml and not /search.xml (even instant.xml works worse)
    – syntax suggest does not work at all for Cyrillic. it _returns_ results – and show them using wrong encoding. Even while other parts are workin g and regular search also works.

  2. Yes, the stemmer does not work yet for Russian. We are evaluating now a language independent approach with n-grams.

Yes, the API is client based.

    API Usage
The search is started by calling an URL, which also contains all the search parameters.
Results are returned either in HTML format (client side XSL transformation) or in pure XML for further customization.

    API Call
    Result Page (HTML) http://127.0.0.1:4671/results.xml?query=london&start=1&length=10
    Result Page (XML) http://127.0.0.1:4671/results.xml?query=london&start=1&length=10&style=

    Parameters
    query: url-encoded keywords
start: position of first result to be returned (starts with 1)
length: number of results to be returned
style: if empty, then returns pure XML

    External Access
It is possible to run FAROO and the calling program on separate computers.
In Options/General/Browser based Search Access select “Local + Intranet + Internet”

Syntax suggestion works (at least for me) also for Cyrillic e.g. ???????. Perhaps there is some issue if your query is not encoded in UTF-8

We switched recently from search.xml to a ajax based instant.html.
